About ABMS
Since its inception in 1933, the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)® continues to be the leading not-for-profit organization overseeing physician certification in the United States. Its focus is on improving the quality of health care to patients, families, and communities by supporting the continuous professional development of physician specialists.
ABMS establishes the professional standards its 24 medical specialty boards use to develop and implement evaluation and assessment programs for the certification of physician specialists. More than one million physicians and medical specialists are certified by one or more of the ABMS Member Boards in one or more of 38 specialties and 89 subspecialties.
